Yes / No

Blake loves to say yes and no!

I believe this came about from playing with the Xbox 360.  He thoroughly enjoys going through all of the different menus on the Xbox, so every once in awhile I let him go to town!  Well, Nate has an avatar that he created which Blake seems to like a lot (especially his hat!).  I was cleaning up in the kitchen one day and realized that he had been on this avatar screen for over 10 minutes, so of course I went to see what could be so interesting to him.  I come to find out that Blake is moving the little character’s head left to right, up / down, etc.  I had no idea you could do this!  If you make his head spin crazy it will even make him dizzy…pretty funny.  So, I started to play with him.  I would move the character’s head up and down and would also say, “Yes!”.  Then I would move it from left to right and say, “No!”.  His laughs were uncontrollable for a bit! :)

To make a long story short I’m pretty sure this is why he now enjoys saying “yes” and “no”.  He likes to try and nod his head up and down when he says yes, then shake it from left to right when he says no and he keeps doing this pattern over and over.  Very cute indeed.

Big Helper

Blake is at a super cute age so I’ve decided that I need to be better about documenting the silly things he does!  Lately, I’ve been calling him my big helper because he LOVES to help me with all of the household stuff.  He is actually starting to be quite helpful rather then make each job take 10 times as long.  We were sorting laundry yesterday and he was helping me put it into separate piles.  He found all the socks for me in the gigantic pile of clothes and with each one he found, he gladly yelled out, “Sock!!!”, and placed it into the pile.  Such a happy little guy.

Anyway, the main reason why I’m talking about this is because of what is now happening with my “big helper”.  Today, I was writing some addresses on some envelopes and along comes Blake to check out what I’m doing.  As soon as he sees that I have a pen and paper, he got so excited, started pulling on my pants and yelled out, “Helper!”, over and over.  It was truly priceless!  Now obviously, who can say no to that?!  So I pick him up and sit him on the counter with his own pen and paper next to where I’m working.  This worked great for awhile.  He was being such a big helper. :)   Then, he decided he wasn’t satisfied with his papers and needed to write all over mine.  Well, I wouldn’t have that so of course he got frustrated and kept trying harder and harder.  I ended up setting him on the floor and telling him thank you for helping me but that I needed to do some work by myself now.  He got so upset at me and kept hitting / pulling on my pants saying “Helper!” over and over.  I seriously couldn’t get over it.  So stinkin cute!!  I ended up turning on his favorite TV show (Eebee) to get him happy again.  So as you can see, he’s already figured out how being cute will get him his way…

For Blake: Memories of your first year

– You can say Daddy (started out saying Dada, then changed to Dad with a big emphasis on the last D!), Mama or Mom, blankie (you do try to say blanket sometimes), tickle, doggy, hi, all done if we coax you to say it and you make lots of little noises like rolling your Rs, clicking with your tongue or vroom vroom.  It cracks me up when you go around the house constantly rolling your Rs…I can’t even do that!

– You have become quite attached to your blanket.  I love it…it’s too cute!  You will hug it, roll around on the floor with it, chew on it and any time you see it your face lights right up and you say, “Blankie!!”.  After your nap or when you wake up in the morning and we come in to get you, you’ll usually smile real big, plop right down on your blanket with your butt sticking up in the air and say blankie.

– Your smile is infectious!  EVERYONE comments on how smiley you are and I have to admit that you are quite the smiley little boy.  It doesn’t take much to see that smile!  Usually someone catching your eye is all you need.

– You are quite the social little boy.  You could be having the worst day (upset, crying, won’t let me set you on the floor) and we go out or some friends come over and you’re instantly better!  You get so happy and don’t have a problem with anyone new holding you.  Instead of eating your dinner when we’re at a restaurant you enjoy turning around in your highchair and entertaining everyone else in the restaurant!  When we go into a store and leave a store you wave to everyone the entire time.  It could be hours past your bed time but if we’re with a big group of people you are wide awake and very smiley.

– You are fascinated with how things work.  You love to open our DVD player, take out all of the DVDs, close the DVD player and take off with all of the DVDs (already hiding the evidence!).  You’re constantly trying to play with our laptops and iPhones.  Whenever I do let you play with either of them it’s amazing the things you end up changing or getting into!  You also love the Tivo remote and have figured out which buttons make the best noises.  A few weeks ago your Dad was taking apart our Xbox 360 and you were with him every step of the way…so interested!

–  You LOVE wheels!  You are defenitely a fan of anything with wheels.  It’s so funny because if you see a new toy (even if it’s a big toy that you’re supposed to sit on) and it has wheels on it, the first thing you do is flip it over and check out / spin the wheels.

– Balls will entertain you for hours.  I recently got a large bouncy ball with blue glitter in it.  You rolled it around the house for almost an hour…taking breaks every once in awhile to put your face right up to the ball and watch the glitter move around in there!  You enjoy stealing Quigley’s tennis ball because he then follows you around the house. :)   You’re already learning how to throw it for him.

– You’re my little bookworm.  You already have your favorite books (Dr. Suess’s ABC Book, The Foot Book, There’s a Wocket in my Pocket, Mr. Brown Can Moo! Can You?, My Little Animal Book).  You’re so good when we read to you.  You get very interested in the story.  I love watching you when your Daddy’s reading to you before bed.  We recently moved your books to the front room so you can take them out yourself and you do multiple times a day!  You love going through each of your books and you even brought one to me the other day to read to you.

– You love your dog!  Quigley is quickly becoming your partner in crime.  You have wayyy to much fun feeding him food.  Most of the time he probably ends up eating more of your dinner then you do.  There are times when I’ve found you both going through the trash, finding all sorts of goodies in the cupboard under the kitchen sink, rolling out the toilet paper rolls (you roll, Quigley tears!), digging in the flower bed and much much more.

– You inspect your food.  You have proven to be quite a picky eater.  I was never able to feed you baby food…you wouldn’t have anything to do with it!  I tried for months.  It took awhile for you to figure out how to swallow things because of that.  You would gag on EVERYTHING!  I hated it…made me so nervous.  Now, you eat solid foods quite well.  It’s so funny to watch you with new food.  You will pick it up, turn it around in your hands and inspect every single piece of it and then you will very slowly touch it to your tongue to see what it tastes like.  Even if you do seem to like it, most of the time you won’t actually eat it until I’ve given it to you for 5 or 6 days in a row.

– You love fruits and hate vegetables.  I have yet to find a fruit that you won’t eat and a vegatable that you will eat!

– You are an independent little boy.  I think that was part of the problem with baby food.  You won’t let me or your Dad feed you hardly anything.  You have to do it yourself.  The only thing you’ll eat from a spoon is ice cream!  Haha.

– You are daring and cautious all at the same time.  You love the water and would dive right in if we let you!  But at the same time, you are very cautious with walking.  I think you’re waiting until you know you won’t fall to take the plunge of walking all on your own.

– You LOVE the great outdoors!  You could be crying but the minute we take you outside you stop.  On the flip side, if you see one of us open the front door and then close it before you can get outside, you cry.  You’re happy for hours at a time playing outside.  We don’t even have to bring any toys out there.  You’re perfectly content inspecting and/or playing with all of the things you find…like bugs (you think rollie pollies and praying mantis’s are pretty dang cool), wood chips, dirt, rocks, weeds and more!

– You think it’s quite entertaining when we tell you not to do something.  You give us a mischievous smile and then do it again!

– You pass out when you get really upset.  Sometimes you will hold your breath when you’re crying for so long that you will actually pass out!  It doesn’t happen very often, but it freaks us out when you do that!!

– You thoroughly enjoy listenning to music.  I absolutely love watching you jam out.  It’s adorable!  You’re a cute little dancer.  You love it when we sing to you as well.  I make it a point to sing to you for a few minutes everytime I lay you down for a nap or bed.

– You will not sleep in public.  You are a very good sleeper but you have to be in your crib or your car seat (driving).  My social little boy can’t miss out in all the fun!  Even if you’re completely exhausted and we’re still out somewhere, you won’t fall asleep.

– You kiss with your mouth wide open.

You are such a joy to have in my life!  I couldn’t ask for a sweeter little boy.  It’s only been one year and I have already learned sooo much from you.  I hope you’ll enjoy reading about these memories when you get older.  I love you with all my heart and thank you for an amazing first year of your life!! :)
